community mobility rituals
Our Community Mobility Rituals (CMRs) work to socialize and connect people around mobility—while working to increase mobility in underserved and racially marginalized communities.

What is a community mobility ritual?
We refer to these mobility events as “rituals” given they all have some elements in common which lend themselves to being normalized and ritualized. These elements include a schedule with rhythmic frequency, priority on socialization, focus on racialized healing, reduced barriers to participation, natural development of shared customs, active disruption of the status quo, and the hyperlocal collective ownership of "our" space.
the impact
Community Mobility Rituals at the hyperlocal, neighborhood level contribute to growing trust in communities. When trust increases in neighborhoods, perceptions of violence decrease.
A reduction in the concerns around neighborhood violence move people to walk, bike, shop, and explore their communities. More active and hyperlocal explorations make our streets more vibrant. More vibrant streets attract increased retail—leading to greater job creation in our neighborhoods, and will contribute to reducing violence in our communities.
